DOT Testing

The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) is a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) program to increase highway safety by reducing accidents caused by driver medical conditions.

The NRCME promotes the consistent application of FMCSA Medical Standards, Advisory Criteria and Guidelines thru mandatory medical examiner training and certification.

A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination is conducted by a licensed "medical examiner."  To find a medical examiner to conduct the DOT physical exam you may search for one in your area on the FMSCA website.  A DOT physical exam is valid for up to 24 months. The medical examiner may also issue a certificate for less than 24 months when it is necessary to monitor a health condition.

To perform the Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver medical exam after April 20, 2014, medical examiners must be a Certified Medical Examiner in the National Registry.

Driver Requirements:

Commercial drivers will be required to use a Certified Medical Examiner in the National Registry for medical exams and certificates issued after May 21, 2014.

For more information you can go to the FMSCA website for the most recent updates.

In our office both Dr. Koelling and Dr. Turnbull are Certified Medical Examiners with the NRCME and can provide DOT physical examinations.
